Card Making Tips and Techniques 2

I know I’ve mentioned this a few times here on the Kreate-A-Lope Blog, but it bears keeping in mind. When making your cards by hand, there can be a huge difference in cards to be mailed and cards that are to be handed to their recipients. Both the cards and the envelopes have different creative options, based on the final use of the card. For example, in the card above, with the thick grommet and the glitter, I knew I didn’t want this card going through the mail, so I deliberately made an envelope that the US Postal Service would prefer I didn’t send through their machines. It really doesn’t work well, I’ve tried it. Not the envelope itself - that’s fine, it’s the multi-layers on top. The pink cardstock, the patterned cardstock, the photo paper punch for the address. Trust me, no amount of glue will ensure that these make it through the sorting machines. So, if you know you’re going to give your recipients the cards in person (or mailed inside a gift box, etc), then why not go the extra distance and create an ‘envelope front’. This is similar to a “card front” - only it is sized for the envelope and has an addressee space. Feel free to add ribbon, fibers, embellishments onto these envelopes! Why not, it just creates a nicer presentation for your card! And if you’re going to the effort and care of hand making the card, doesn’t it make sense to make the coordinating envelope as well?

We’re still hashing out the details of our next Blog Challenge. I have the RAKs in hand, but what should the theme be? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
