Card Making Tips and Techniques 8

This is a fun technique.  I’m always looking for ways to make my own embellishments, and here’s what I did.  See the acrylic tag on the card?  It’s actually a piece of thin chipboard (okay, another frugal tip - it’s from the back of a notepad - I don’t like buying chipboard when I have so much around - cereal boxes, the back side of all paper packs, etc).  I cut a rectangle bigger than my clear acrylic tag, and painted it with metallic gold paint, and let dry.  Then I stamped the ‘lacy’ image on top with thick white opaque pigment ink.  Lesson Learned:  Let the gold paint dry before stamping the white on, and LET the white ink dry before putting the acrylic tag on!  (Smudge city - not good)

Then after the white ink is dry, position the clear acrylic tag however you want to see the white image inside, and adhere.  Trim the excess chipboard from around the tag.  Done!

By creating your own embellishments you can coordinate them to match your project perfectly.  The store offerings are no longer your only choice.  I just added some fiber (pretty yarn) to my tag, and used a lovely oriental folding paper as the focal piece.  Of course, I made a coordinating envelope to match - I couldn’t possibly mail out this card in an office supply white envelope!  This is an A7 (5″ x 7″) card and envelope.
