It’s All in the Presentation

BirthdayGirlos

I’ve made cards that I knew were going to get mailed, and others that I knew were going to be handed to the recipient. But now that I think about it - they are two totally different categories.

I was just looking at a wonderful card that our friend Andrea Wiebe gave me, and the envelope had a large flower on the front. This card isn’t intended to go through the mail, it’s intended to be handed, with love, to the recipient - either as a “just because” card, or as the card accompanying a gift. Regardless the occasion, cards that are handed to their receivers can be crafted with that in mind.

For example, let’s look at the card above. At present, it needs an address printed on and it can go through the mail. But what if it were the birthday card that’s going in a gift? Then I could add some Prima flowers to the front, maybe some bling jewel brads, even an envelope front (a separate piece, decorated and then adhered down). None of these would be acceptable to mail in the post, BUT, if you’re handing it to someone then why not get the most impact on the presentation with the gorgeous envelope? Why have the person open a plain white envelope to get to your beautiful card? Why not make the envelope as gorgeous as the card? It’s worth it!!

I see your point with the difference between cards you hand to someone and ones you put through the mail. I will definitely keep that in mind the next time I make a card to give to someone. I’d like to add more to the envelope.
